In this three-segment program, students will explore the nature of animal instincts
and find out why humpback whales swim three thousand miles to mate or why
chimpanzees use "tools" to gather food. In Marine Migration, students will follow
Pacific humpback whales as they spend summers off the coast of Alaska and winters
off the coast of Maui as a part of their mating odyssey. The Hibernation and Homing
segment explores how bears use their homing instinct to return from far away
journeys for food and describes what happens during hibernation. The third segment,
Parenting Primates, allows students to watch parents teach baby primates in
Borneo's jungles how to groom, build nests and find food. A two-page teacher's
guide is also included.
