Cell phones are not allowed in the school building. They may turn them off and place them in their backpack during the day, but the backpacks are to be kept in the lockers during the day. So far, only one boy has a laptop that he brings to school - he is very careful to make sure that the teacher in charge knows he is not doing anything he shouldn't. A few students use the memory sticks to keep their work on, but if I catch any of them trying to download games or inappropriate pictures, etc. they know they will lose computer privileges. It hasn't been a problem so far, because we have in place a very good Technology Acceptable Use Policy both from the Diocese and our own school that is pretty clear on unacceptable use of any equipment. Toni Koontz Librarian St. Charles Preparatory School Columbus OH akoontz@cdeducation.org Carpe Diem -----Original Message----- From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU] On Behalf Of Leslie Bendt Sent: Tuesday, March 02, 2004 6:23 AM To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Subject: Target Sec/Mid: Inappropriate use of cell phones, student-owned laptops, PDA's Our advances in technology have created the opportunity for students to 'hop-on' our wireless network. We have had times when students are 'streaming' live video from the classroom or posting potentially inappropriate pictures to specific sites, other than the school's web page. Our District level office is aware of this situation and it's potential. We are developing policies to address it. Do you have similar issues, and if so, what is your school/district doing to address the concern? I will post a hit.
