I am looking for the author and title of an old story (possibly a poem) about a baker's daughter who is very proud. And she wants the beautiful cake that is in the baker's display window for her birthday cake. The baker tries to tell her she can't have that cake, but the daughter insists. At her party, the cake is there, but when she goes to eat it, she finds out it's not a real cake. I believe there is a line in it, perhaps the first line, that goes something like this: "Oh, but the baker's daughter was beautiful." Searching on the Internet, I have found a few stories titled "The Baker's Daughter", one by D.E. Stevenson, one by Margery Williams, and one by Harry Bliss. However, I have not been able to find an excerpt or description of these stories, so I cannot tell if any of them is the story I'm thinking of. If this rings a bell with anyone, please contact me at kstuppi@yahoo.com Thanks!
