Here are the responses I received: We incorporated D.E.A.R. on weekly basis for K-12. For 20-30 minutes each Wednesday the students know to bring reading material. The elementary has an assigned time but the hs rotates the hour so one class doesn't lose time each week. At first we let them pretty much read anything. Now we are trying to get the students to read only books. The staff and administrators are expected to participate also. We implemented this as part of our NCA strategy and the staff agrees that it is beneficial. I would love to hear about the other ideas you get. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Four books you should consider that are research-based: Teaching for Comprehension in Reading, Grades K-2.
