In my undergraduate college, we were required to subscribe and read the
Christian Science Monitor if we were taking any world history courses such as
History of India, Russia, etc. The professor's main reason is that the CSM follows
coverage of events throughout the world longer than any other news source.
It does not depend as much on whether an article will be breaking news as it
does on whether it is important news. I was very surprised my first year of
college when he mentioned this. Three of us joined together to subscribe, but we
were hooked. As I've traveled around the world, I have learned that you just
don't get the broad range of international coverage in local papers.
