Dear LM-Net:

I seem to have a reoccurring problem with students paying for lost books,
then 1-2 months later (or even a year later!), the book is returned. I have been
faithful about providing reimbursements, but lately I find that it is over-taxing
my time.

For instance, I go through the process of submitting the check, doing the
receipt/record keeping, and maintaining a fund balance. Every the book shows up, I
have to go back and do all that record keeping again, plus contact the student or
parent regarding the reimbursement, or fill out a PO for the reimbursement.

My question is this: do you have a policy that states that students will NOT
receive their money back after 30 days (or some other time frame) for materials
paid for--Even if the book shows up at some point? What is the fairest way to
handle this issue?

 Thanks in advance!
