Concerning the website mentioned below: "www.dontread.org" links you
to...surprise, surprise...audible.com. The "don't read" posters are
obvious spoofs of the ALA READ posters. They are even using a spiffy
little ".org" web address, too. The site is full of smirking little
comments about reading: Don't burn books; "without them, libraries will
just be big empty rooms." There will still be lots of things to read,
after audible.com saves the world from books: "Road signes, menus,
e-mails, ID badges, websites, and the eye chart at the DMV..."

Yuck. I think I'll call them up, and tell them I want my next credit
card bill from audible.com to be in audio format!

It's worth noting that audible.com has added a new "audible education"
section with 20 percent off all audio programs; but of course, there's a
catch: the savings are only for students and educators with a ".edu"
mail suffix...which pretty much rules out all K-12 educators. Sigh.

I was on a Yahoo page and saw an ad for this website. Very interesting
after the recent discussion about audio books. Does ALA have any kind of
copyright on these posters??? http://www.dontread.org/

I'm headed to sunny Phoenix tomorrow! Everyone have a great vacation!
