I have not had a student teacher in my library, but I have been a
student teacher in somebody else's library and it was the most valuable
experience I could have had before starting my career. I spent 18 weeks
doing my student teaching (6 weeks each at elementary, middle and high)
and I learned to do everything from changing an overhead lightbulb to
cataloging books to developing a collaborative lesson with grade level
teachers. It was my student teaching experience that really helped me
to know that I had made the right move in changing careers (from
paralegal to school librarian).

One of the student teaching experiences I enjoyed the most was when my
elementary school mentor let me manage the media center on my own for a
week. This was after I had been with her for about 4 weeks, and she was
there if I needed her, but really let me see what it was like to be "on
my own" and really prepared me for when I started at my school (in the
middle of the year!)

I'm sure that this student will appreciate any experience and guidance
you can give her.
