There is no copyright problem here. Listening to the book on tape in the classroom is covered in Section 110(a). If I'm not doing something right, I hope someone will tell me. (BTW, this is a *great* list!) My question: Is playing a book on tape for a group covered by fair use? The information I found on the Web all seems to pertain to an *individual's* use of a recorded book. This question came up in a discussion at my school about general copyright issues when a teacher asking about playing a recording of Out of the Dust for her middle school English class.
