I would buy two paperback picture books and cut one up for the flannel pieces - I kept the other to make sure I always had a copy of the book no matter where I taught. I used an old fashioned heat press (like poster shops use to mount posters to stock) to attach the flannel but you could use a glue gun to attach flannel to the back of the pictures or you could use that self stick velcro! The stories I used: Have you seen the Crocodile by Colin West Over in the Meadow illustrated by Ezra Jack Keats One Monday Morning by Uri Shulevirtz The Little Red Hen illus by Paul Galdone Henny Penny illus by Paul Galdone The Gingerbread Boy illus by Paul Galdone Ten Apples Up On Top by Theo LeSieg- I cut out red flannel apples to add to the characters One Fine Day by Nonny Hogrogriam A Fly Went By by Mike McClintock Drummer Hoff by Ed Emberly No Jumping on the Bed by Tedd Arnold Bertie and the Bear by Pamela Allen Bears in the Night by Stan Berenstain It looked like Spilt Milk by Charles Shaw - I traced the shapes on white flannel Not true flannel stories: Arthur's Valentine by Marc Brown- I created the valentines and pieces and would give each child a chocolate kiss (after I checked to make sure no one was allergic to chocolate- you could give a picture of a hershey kiss instead) The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins- I cut out a dozen tan flannel circles to look like cookies and used red yarn to divide the set as another guest rang the doorbell Humbug Witch by Lorna Balian- flannel girl dressed in her costume, have her set up before the students arrive. You take off the costume as the story progresses The Biggest Sandwich Ever – with all the layers The Carrot Seed – large carrot hidden behind a brown flannel cloth -- Kate Stirk, Librarian North Metro Technical College; Acworth, GA, USA 17 years a Media Specialist in Central Florida KateStirk@comcast.net View from the Library (BLOG) http://northmetrotechlibraryatacworth.blogspot.com/ -------------------------------------------------------------------- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
