I use the remote security cables for some equipment, and think they are
necessary. There is a difference between a teacher losing a remote to a TV
that stays in their room, and loosing one to a machine that travels, so that
it inconveniences everyone else. Teachers here are responsible for the
remotes to their own equipment, but equipment that travels has the remotes
attached, so that I don't have to spend time trying to track them down, or
replacing them when they get lost (and listening to other teachers who need
to use that machine complain.) The cables cost about $12.00, and I think
they are worthy purchases.

I am totally against the cord keepers with the coil. No teacher sits 4-6
feet from their tv, so what is the point? It just makes teachers rightfully
mad. Universal remotes to replace lost remotes cost about $5, so the coils
really are saving you much. Losing remotes is one of the costs of doing
business. Unless the same teacher loses more than 1 a year, just don't
worry about it. If you make them figure out how to program the new remote,
they will be more likely to keep track of it! You might also point out that
if they lose their DVD remote, the programmable one won't be able to provide
some of the functions they want.
