I am going to be having a preliminary conversation with someone from our local public library system tomorrow morning about the possibility of starting an after school book club that would be jointly run by myself and someone from the library. Our population is economically depressed and reading scores, while improving, are not where we would like them to be. We haven't figured anything out yet, but I anticipate we would probably open it up to 4th and 5th graders on a once-a-month, after school basis. I've never done anything like this before and am wondering if anyone has/is running such a program and what has worked well and what hasn't. Any suggestions about how to structure such a thing or what activities to offer? I will post a hit if there's an interest. Thanks so much, Julie Miller-Breetz, librarian Cochran Elementary Louisville, KY jbreetz1@jefferson.k12.ky.us -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
