Here is one idea for Constitution Day for a high school. There is a primary-source web site which links to hand-selected pictures, documents, maps at the national archives, Library of Congress and other such institutions. Free to all libraries, schools and educators, the site (which is called AwesomeStories) has about 100,000 hand-selected links positioned in-context. To help celebrate Constitution Day, there is a new story which uses the archives and Library of Congress to cover the Constitutional debates, the delegates' bitter disagreements, the concerns about giving too much power to a central government and not enough rights to individual citizens. It also includes how the Supreme Court got the power to judicially review the Constitution. The link to the Constitution story is here: http://www.awesomestories.com/famous_trials/marbury_madison/marbury_madison_ch1.htm To get a free academic membership for yourself and your library/school, sign up on the site's main URL: http://www.awesomestories.com/ Linked in the above story is a National Archives-created game (called "The Constitution Game") which was designed by NARA to help students experience what it might have been like to be a delegate in 1787. Here is the direct link to that simulation: http://www.archives.gov/education/lessons/constitution-day/game.html Carole Bos, J.D.
