Pardon the cross-posting, but I hadn't seen this listed here and thought I'd share. Ronda Y. Foust School Media Specialist-in-Training, UTK rstansb2@utk.edu Oak Ridge, TN From: "David M Silver" <dmsilver@usfca.edu> To: <cyberculture-announce@usfca.edu> Sent: Monday, August 07, 2006 2:25 PM Subject: [cyberculture-announce] The September Project Dear members of cyberculture-announce, Do you know a librarian? Do you work with a librarian? Does your university, school, or institution include librarians? If so, please feel free to forward this message to your librarian. Also, please feel free to include me in the CC. Finally, please feel free to blog this message and forward to any other relevant list. Thank you. (This email includes non-English characters. Not all email clients support such characters; apologies for any mistakes.) David Silver *** My name is David Silver. I am an assistant professor of media studies at the University of San Francisco. I am writing to invite you and your library to participate in The September Project (http://www.theseptemberproject.org), a global library project. The September Project encourages free and public events in all libraries in all countries on or around September 11. Libraries are collaborating with other organizations to offer events, such as: displays about human rights and government documents; talks and performances about democracy and cultural difference; film screenings about important issues; and voter registration. Additional examples of event ideas can be found at: http://www.theseptemberproject.org/events.aspx September Project events are not about September 11; they are events of reflection, discussion, and dialogue about the meaning of democracy, the role of information in promoting active citizenship, and the importance of literacy in understanding the world. Events take place on September 11, in the week of September 11, or throughout the month of September. Currently, more than 200 libraries in 22 countries are participating in The September Project. This includes public libraries, academic libraries, school libraries, and governmental libraries. We would be honored if your library participated this year. On our web site http://www.theseptemberproject.org you will find a map of participating libraries, hundreds of event ideas, and other resources. I hope this is a project that will interest your library. If you are interested, please sign up your library here: http://www.theseptemberproject.org/venue.aspx Finally, we have done our best to translate our web site.
