Thanks Shonda you just helped prove that my hearing is better than my husbands. At normal volume I could hear even the 169.. wave. He couldn't even hear the mosquito. We cranked the volume, 3/4 and I could hear all but the top. With full volume he could finally hear them, although we weren't sure we were actually hearing the last one. I could hear a very faint high tone, although the lower tone masks it. I'm 49. Jean R. Most you of have probably already heard about the mosquito ringtone (if not, check out this site for more info: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/12/technology/12ring.html?ex=1151899200&en=a5dacf85abe016cb&ei=5070 ). I was just curious about the number of librarians who are able to hear it? Reportedly, most adults cannot hear the sound.....but I can....and it drives me insane! My own kids have it on their cell phones and I noticed last week (when I went into school to work) that a group of summer schoolers also had their phones buzzing with it. For those schools that still allow cell phones on campus for use by students after school (we allow this), do you anticipate problems with the buzz on the phones during tests---if students get the idea that they can text one another without the teacher knowing? Are you making your teachers and administrators aware of the problems? I plan to let my teachers know about the situation and send them a link to the buzz, so they can try it for themselves. Here's a link which compares the "true mosquito buzz" with others at a higher frequency. Can you hear it? (How old are you?)---I can't hear the 17959 Hz pure sine wave but the others make me grit my teeth!! And I'm 44---obviously, I did not attend too many rock concerts in the 70's and 80's! <grin> http://saunderslog.com/2006/06/12/the-mosquito-ring-tone-this-adult-can-hear-it/ ~Shonda -- Shonda Brisco, MLIS Technology Librarian Fort Worth Country Day School Fort Worth, TX 76109 sbrisco@gmail.com http://www.fwcds.org -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
