This is indeed a problem for all of us who are one-people libraries. I experience all that is listed here. I prioritize everything - and some things never get done. I have yet to send out an overdue this year - since Sept...no time. When I see the student in the hall - I tell her/him of the overdue. We do have a policy that no grades are recorded in June until all materials are returned - so that helps. I have to ask myself constantly -- what is important and will my decision affect the students and how. I do have a parent volunteer who shelves every Friday - so that helps. I do my own cataloging - and have the students do the processing - so that helps. Classes are my first priority - so lots of time is spent there. The bottom line is this: if the school doesn't provide me with a library aide - some things won't get done...so be it. Amen and Amen. I am feeling overwhelmed with all that needs to be done and the amount of time I have to do it in. How do other people who are the only ones working in the library handle everything that needs to get done. I have a book cart over flowing with books to be reshelved, I have books that need to be processed, I have shelves that are a wreck, I have lesson plans to prepare and teach, overdue notices to print, and I also teach small reading groups to 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th graders. I am feeling extremely overwhelmed and ready to scream. Any advice, suggestions would be very much appreciated. BTW, I work in a K-8 Library. > > Thanks! > > > > Mari Ferguson, K-8 Librarian > Theodore Jamerson Elementary > Bismarck, ND > marivferguson@yahoo.com > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo!
