In this situation I wouldn't want the class to reshelve those books, but the
situation would need attention. I'm thinking this is regular hourly class
rotation? Even though, I would try to reshelve the books quickly in between
classes. I wouldn't think the situation happens often, and if it does of course
you would not always want to reshelve quickly.

It's good for student to learn how to locate the books on the shelves to begin
their work, however sometimes the teaching librarian has pulled the books and put
them on a reserve cart for the research experience. Various methods could
alleviate the problem of having books left all over the tables.

  Hello everyone!

Today was the first day of my library media specialist internship at
a 7-12 building! I'm very excited because I have never worked with this
age group before. I'm used to elementary students. Anyway, as I was
learning about all the day to day "stuff" that my cooperating LMS does,
I learned about some of the problems she has in the LMC. One of the
problems that she is having is that when students come down to do
research, they will pull all of the books for that particular topic off
the shelf and don't return them. The problem is that when later classes
come in, they aren't going into the stacks to find their books. They're
looking on the carts that previous students have put their books on.
Here are my questions:

What do you do when this occurs? Do you quickly try to reshelve the
books before the next class comes in? Do you leave the books on the
carts? What do you do to teach students to be more responsible for
returning their books to the shelves AND in the right places? While she
is looking for answers to be age appropriate for her 7-12 building, I
think we might be able to modify any responses that concern the K-6 age
groups, too.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated not only by myself, but also
by my cooperating LMS. She hadn't heard of the LM_Net, so I want to
impress her with all the responses I get to encourage her to reach out
to other media specialists. Thanks in advance to all those who respond.
I will also try to post a hit if a I get a few responses. Have a
wonderful rest of the week :0)
