Dear Colleagues, I'm on a high school task force for school improvement that is brainstorming ideas to improve our current daily schedule. We would like to increase teaching time per period by possibly reducing the length of lunch periods. We currently run a 9 period day, with 39 mins. in each period and 3 overcrowded lunch periods (total student enrollment 700 and growing). Contract time is 7:40 - 2:40. We are not interested in block scheduling, nor do we really want to cut back to 8 periods/day. We seem to be trying to reinvent the wheel, so I was wondering if any of you out there have faced a similar challenge, have found a good solution and would be willing to share. TIA Marie A.
