LM_NET Archive

Jean, I had a Target/Hit on this last semester. If you go to the
archives and search "Praxis", it'll come up. Alternately, Praxis
info is available at the ETS website:

http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/
menuitem.fab2360b1645a1de9b3a0779f1751509/?
vgnextoid=48c05ee3d74f4010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD

If that link doesn't work, just Google "Praxis" and "ETS". The site
has an online registration component to register for the test, links
to sample tests for the various Praxis exams, links to information of
state requirements (listed by state), and information on study
guides. I took the practice tests at the site and also got a study
guide (don't remember the name of the guide I got, but it was one
that had sample tests I could load onto my computer).

For my purposes, I had to take the School Media and the PLT and had
the option of taking it for elementary,, middle or high school. I
was told that taking one didn't preclude you from getting a job in
another (i.e., I took the elementary one and have ended up getting a
job at a high school). I reviewed Information Power, which was
helpful for the School Media portion. Regarding which level to take
for the PLT, if your state doesn't have a specific requirement for a
level, I'd take the PLT geared toward the level I was most
comfortable with b/c there are questions that are easier to answer if
you are familiar with the literature of that age group. The PLT had
short essay and multiple choice questions. It really helps a LOT if
you go through and do all the multiple choice questions first then go
back to do the essay questions--especially if you tend to be a stream
of consciousness writer--b/c it's easy to let the time get away from
you.

Good luck.
