Rightfully put in my place by Ms. Yohe. ;-) Now ya'll do know that when I say something about IT staff this does not apply to ALL IT staff. Especially folks like Paula, Doug Johnson, etc. I have also met many wonderful IT staff folks - who are known to pull their hair out because they can't keep teachers from taking up way too much bandwidth, letting their students play games online all class period, etc. So this does need to be a group effort. Bottom line is that Internet use in schools should be used only for educational activities - which should include some personal research just like the students can do in your libraries. But when students go to the workplace, they need to know how to limit their online activities in accord with their job requirements. And the best way to ensure this occurs is to practice tending roses, so that the thistles do not grow (quick, what book title?) by which I mean focusing on the really good educational activities. And have ya'll called your Senators on the Internet safety education bill yet? Have a good weekend. Nancy -- Nancy Willard, M.S., J.D.
