Hi all,

I am pleased to announce the launch of my new blog and discussion group.

My new blog is at: http://csriu.blogspot.com/. The first article is:

Delete Internet Fear-Mongering

Internet fear-mongering is undermining our ability to effectively address
the risks to young people online. In their zeal to address these concerns,
some individuals and organizations are exaggerating the problem. They
present poorly documented statements and misleading claims. ...

My new discussion group is Cyber-Safe Kids, Cyber-Savvy Teens, Cyber-Secure
Schools. The address is: http://groups.google.com/group/cskcstcss?hl=en

You can also find links to both of these from my web site at
http://csriu.org.

I hope that through this discussion group we can create greater
collaboration between safe school personnel - administrators, counselors,
and school resource officers - and those with understanding about Internet
technologies and what students are doing online. So please forward this
message to your school's safe school personnel who you think might be
interested.

The discussion group is also the vehicle I will use to provide support for
those who are using my other materials in schools - my books and
soon-to-be-released slides-n'-audio professional development presentations.

There is an excellent bill pending in the Senate, S 2344, which will provide
funds for organizations providing Internet safety education to students,
parents, and teachers. Some states are now requiring such instruction -
others are soon to follow. It is my hope that we can collaboratively
encourage proactive approaches to address the risks and concerns associated
with online use and avoid approaches that rely on more simplistic rules and
fear-mongering.

Please join me! ;-)

Nancy
