LM_NET Archive

The people I've "met" through LM_NET are extraordinary...many of them I have since
met in person (from Doug Johnson to Gary Hartzell to Debbie Stafford to Peter to
Jacquie Henry to Jeff Hastings most recently in Reno; I've known Mike forever),
others remain trusted virtual friends, but I have never been "alone" in my school
library.

Thank you, Peter and Mike, for some of the greatest relationships and the increased
expertise and knowledge that has resulted from your vision and hard work. The
people taking over will do a terrific job for our profession, but I will always
thank you two for the digital party line (great analogy, Jeff) we've had for 15
years.

All the best in your future endeavors; I know they will be stellar, too.

Subject: [LM_NET] You changed my life, Mike and Peter.

Dear Peter and Mike:

I owe you guys, big-time, for what you and the tool you created have
done for me.

I have rarely had the opportunity to attend conferences and meet my
fellow professionals in the flesh. When I finally did have that
opportunity to have face-to-face contact with colleagues from around
North America last weekend at AASL Reno, I fully realized how many of
 us
know each other mainly through our interactions in this forum.

I'm sure we've all come to take LM_NET for granted from time-to-time,
but wow: think about what a great gift it has been.

Since, typically, school library media specialists practice as the
single individual serving that role in their respective facilities, the
life of a school librarian can be one in which it is very easy to feel
isolated and misunderstood. In my opinion, you guys are responsible for
greatly improving that situation. You took all our lonely islands and
connected them via digital party line. Thank you both.

  Gratefully,

  Jeffrey Hastings,
  School Library Media Specialist

  Howell, Michigan
