Last week I posted a TARGET asking people's opinions about the bill introduced by Sen. Ted Stevens to promote Internet safety at school, supposed to be less restrictive than DOPA. I wanted to know what people thought of it. I only got 3-4 responses, and in several people mentioned that they were leery because of their opinions of Sen. Stevens. Here is one that offered a bit more info. If you missed this before, here is a URL to a description of the bill, and below that is the comment: *http://tinyurl.com/2tdwwl* Given the sponsor, I'm looking for something nefarious slipped in among the fine print. Here's the only part mentioning libraries in the CRS summary on Thomas. Deleting Online Predators Act of 2007 - Amends the Communications Act of 1934 to require schools and libraries that receive universal service support to enforce a policy that: (1) prohibits access to a commercial social networking website or chat room unless used for an educational purpose with adult supervision; and (2) protects against access to visual depictions that are obscene, child pornography, or harmful to minors. -- ********************************* "Try Curiosity!"--Dorothy Parker ********************************* Dr. Mary Ann Bell Associate Professor Sam Houston State University A Member of the Texas State University System Department of Library Science lis_mah@shsu.edu drmaryannbell@gmail.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
