Every summer my husband and I (and usually our son) go to Camp Atterbury in Indiana to teach at the Civil Air Patrol National Emergency Services Academy for two weeks. We teach the higher levels of the Incident Command System. This year they had a small ICSS class so I was not needed to teach. Instead I ended up helping with Logistics and Administration. The minute that they heard that I was a librarian they said "You are exactly what we need." For logistics I inventoried all of the equipment and supplies. This inventory I saved in an Excel spreadsheet. For Administration I checked in all the arriving and leaving people using a barcode reader and the members ID card barcode. The program that we were using looked a lot like what we use for check-out in my library back home. Finally, no one wanted to work the sales night when attendees purchase camp souvenirs, so I volunteered. After all the book fairs that I have done - this was a walk in the park. They have already signed me up to help with Administration for next year. NESA is the largest Academy that the Civil Air Patrol puts on each year - so it is great that the participants now see how valuable librarians are.
