Thanks to all of you who took the time to respond. I really did not expect to receive so many great responses! Now I have plenty of information to share with the faculty. Here is what I received: Try Facts on File. They have a component called Ferguson's Career Guidance Center that has a section on career assessment. Call 800-322-8755 for customer support. Does your state provide anything? Our Department of Education provides this free site to virtually anyone in the state. All schools from K-12 through post-graduate have a sign on, along with many state services such as unemployment or Voc Rehab. Providing the sign on to anyone who needs it is encouraged. This site has not only an interest inventory, but a number of other surveys, questionnaires, etc. that are useful. http://azcis.intocareers.org/ Also, our guidance department is now using a program from Naviance that is used for high school registration, four year plans, career research, learning style inventories, etc. It even has free SAT prep! I know the annual subscription is paid for by our PTO, but since I'm not with the guidance department, I don't know the particulars - cost, etc. https://workspacek12.naviance.com/signin.php I just got the career database from Facts on File and it got rave reviews from the Business dept. Good morning! We use the program called CHOICES and really like it. Check it out at http://www.bridges.com We use CareerCruising and love it! I have used it in two different school districts, and with all grade levels from 5th to 12th. It is easy to use--almost intuitive to the way students think. The college information is compiled from the Peterson college and university books so you know the info is accurate and up-to-date. There are several ways to access information: a "matchmaker" interest survey; a career info database; a college and university database. Students are able to create their own portfolio to collect & save information, and to create college admissions essays and letters, etc. All in all, it's a very useful database and not nearly as expensive as some others on the market. I'm pretty sure they would arrange a trial so you and your teachers could try it out before you purchased it. Best of luck! Career Cruising is great - has testing as well as college info. Facts on File has good career stuff. Several years ago we bought the book version of a program called Vocational BiographiesThe company now has an online data base for the same thing- it costs about $300 a year, I think, but our district office buys it for the school with some vocational money. It is very nice and the kids can use it from home, too. you can call the company at 1-800-255-0752.bbrown@altonschools.org Choices is very good. Can't remember the name of the company that puts it out. My career specialist has Career Cruising The best database I have ever seen is Facts on File's Ferguson's Careers. If you go to www.fofweb.com you can sign up for a free trial. If you want to speak with someone, call and ask tech support. They can help you. In our 7-12 school, we currently subscribe to Career Cruising - with Matchmaker assessment (inventory) and interviews with 2 people per career, plus school and scholarship information. I prefer this site. careercruising.com COIN Career Library --inventory, career, school, scholarship info. Company promised an overhaul of the non-user-friendly site, but nothing has changed. www.coin3.com/ccl we dropped our subscription to Bridges.com in favor of Career Cruising--due to pricing, ease of use, and coverage. Also check Ferguson's Career Guidance Center (a Facts on File product). I have found that the Occupational Outlook Handbook provides the best information for most careers. They have a print and web version. I also have bookmarked this sites--all free.--see attachment. Good luck with your search I've subscribed to the Careers Internet database for my high school for six or seven years now. It's an excellent resource with an interactive quiz to determine personality types and corresponding careers as well as lots of other good things. They bill you twice a year and it costs about $300.00 each time. Students can use it from home, too. http://www.careers-internet.org/ We use Choices (a database) and NY state career zone. You can Google it and it's free through NY. Our Guidance Departments at the middle and high schools use www.kuder.com. www.vaview.vt.edu <http://www.vaview.vt.edu/> originally designed for virginia but now has nationwide data interest surveys printable pages college and career searches Our Jr. High and High School uses www.kuder.com Our school uses https://www.kuder.com/ We have Bridges (Choices Explorer) and an Oklahoma one that is fantastic OKCIS (Oklahoma Career Information System) that covers nationwide colleges and career. We get it through Career Tech (Vo Tech). Maybe your state has something similar? I would recommend Bridges Transitions programs http://www.bridges.com/us/prodnserv/index.html for a commercial database. Great resource and great support. I would also recommend http://p16center.educ.indiana.edu/sites/p16/cis/Pages/default.aspx which is the Indiana version of Career Information System which is being created in almost every state for use with both middle and high school students. Access is usually free and only requires that you go to a one-day training on the program. take a look at the EBSCO Career Library http://www.ebscohost.com/thisTopic.php?marketID=1&topicID=680 Vicki Builta Library Media Specialist Anderson High School 4610 S.
