I have to say that I find myself conflicted on this one--the issue of
sticking with a text even if it's tough.  One side of me says that there are
indeed, some books worth the effort required to read them and we should
continue to the end because of what we will gain from having done so.  The
other side of me says that these wonderful books are relatively rare, and in
most cases, I would say that there are so many books just waiting to be
enjoyed that there is little or no reason to continue reading a book that
you don't like.  In the interest of teaching the joy of reading to my
students, I am more likely to recommend abandoning a book that is not
interesting or too hard, unless there is an overreaching reason to read that
particular book.
