Hi all.

I received the email below introducing me to a Frontline show about kids
online. She suggested that this show might be of interest to my "readers."
Well, I guess that is you folks. ;-) I sort of wish they had included me on
the program - since the I am one of the folks focusing on positive
solutions.

Hi Nancy,

Iım writing to let you know about PBS FRONTLINEıs upcoming report
³Growing Up Online² which will air Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 9pm on PBS. The
story investigates the risks, realities and misconceptions of teenage
self-expression on the Web. I think this will be an interesting topic
for the Center for Safe and Responsible Internet Use readers and
colleagues.

Among several topics the program looks at social networking sites which
are increasingly a the place where kids hash out their conflicts,
re-enforce unhealthy or risky behaviors and in some cases the conflicts
and behaviors can escalate or become deadly as in the case of Ryan
Halligan who committed suicide after a cyber bullying incident.

Kids used to get bullied but it ended in the schoolyard. Now the taunts
continue at home in the online world. There is no safe refuge. Ryanıs
father tells FRONTLINE, ³The computer and the Internet were not the
cause of my son's suicide, but I believe they helped amplify and
accelerate the hurt and the pain that he was trying to deal with that
started in person, in the real world.²

I encourage you to look at our preview Web site where you can find a
preview trailer (with embed code for video syndication) and a full
description of the program: http://www.pbs.org/frontline/kidsonline/

³Growing Up Online² should be a thought-provoking program for your
readers interested in the Internet, education and online culture. We
would love to include this information in your newsletter or blog. It
should be a interesting program for your readers.

All the best,

Sandy St. Louis
