I was lucky enough to take a course with Don Leu, the renown researcher in reading and literacy. He contends that reading online requires a different set of skills than reading print; we educators must teach them the necessary skills, such as knowing when to click on a link, evaluating sources, etc. I tested some students on online searching and found my results in agreement with his; often the better students do not perform as well as less proficient ones. As educators we must teach both print and online reading skills!
