I know SLMS are a time crunched bunch, so I thought you all might have some short lesson ideas. My past experience was 45 min periods, with a part time aide, and even then I tended to run long with my lessons, and now I have 35 mins, and no aide. In truth I do have a full time aide, but we never see each other, as I work in two schools, when I am here she is there. I swtich schools by the week. My aide can not teach lessons, only do story time and circulation, no actual instruction.) So the instruction is broken up, as I only see students every other week. I am used to doing big writing projects, and research projects, and combinations of both that take several weeks to complete, or having my lessons extend until the next class for a project. I'm not sure how to teach 20 mins every other week and keep things connected. Does anyone have recommendations for shorter lesson ideas, maybe station work, scavenger hunts, and such, that would allow me to still instruct and cover the topics I want, but not get lost throughout the weeks? My one idea so far is a project Bingo, where I make up bingo cards with assignments and the students work independently to complete their bingo (write a book review, make a poster for a book, complete a mini webquest...sadly I only have 4 computer stations.) But I am not sure how to atually present my actual library circulum in such a short, segmented time. I'm sure someone out there has a similar schedule and might offer advice to a relative newbie (year 3, but new to this district and set up) Thank you!
