I feel it is my responsibility (and certainly a pleasure and a perk of the
profession!!) to read what I purchase in addition to the professional journals from
which I make my purchases. I can, and do, book talk titles I have not read, but
the passion shines through and they fly off the shelves if I talk about what I've
read and am currently reading. My co-librarian and I put stickers with our
initials on the spines of what we've read....the kids love it. We also post lists
of what we're reading. We create the same types of lists for our teachers to post
so the kids are aware they live among literate adults. My goal is to read 100
books yearly; haven't quite achieved that, but 80 isn't too bad. My reading is
done in fits and starts; the students always come first!

Don't read on the job? Ridiculous! Telling a librarian not to read
on the job is like telling a Chef not to cook or taste the food they
prepare for customers each day.
