I have been working as a library media specialist since 1999 in Delaware and
then New Jersey. For a variety of reasons I have worked in 5 school
districts since 1999. My last position ended July 31, 2008. I have been
applying to all positions close enough to my place of residence since that
time. I have had many interviews and was offered a position yesterday as
Director of one of the NJ County Audio Visual Aids Centers. I have decide
to accept this position, even though it is part time.

There are 13 centers in NJ. Schools pay a per pupil fee to be members.
Videos, DVDs, Audiobooks, and scientific models, (skeletons etc.) are
circulated to teachers upon request. The materials can be borrowed from 1
week to 1 month. Teachers can also call the center to request materials.
There is a delivery service that comes to the schools at least once a week.
Teachers can also pick up materials and send them back by the delivery
service. The AVA Center where I will work has an online catalog and ordering
system and also offers annotated weblists (with curriculum, grade level
info, and an evaluation) for many subjects on the AVA web site. This list
is updated at least annually. The center is looking to expand services by
offering more online services and video conferencing in the future.

I would like to know if other states have AVA Centers. If such a service is
provided to you do you use it? What would entice you to use such a service?
What would deter you from using it?

Thank you for any information you can offer me.
