I have a couple of students who are "my friend" on Facebook (I'm at a K-5 school). A number of educators and administrators in my district are also on Facebook & I'm careful to keep my Facebook postings " I only post things I wouldn't mind a 5th grader knowing! I consider Facebook to be the most public of all the social networking sites so I'd never post something clean". along the lines of "Guusje has a hangover". When it comes to Facebook that's definitely TMI. I do have some other friends who stray into TMI and I have them set so that their feeds doesn't show up on my homepage. I know that under the age of 13 kids aren't supposed to have Facebook / MySpace pages but many of my students do. When I ask they tell me their parents uncles /aunts set it up for them. Many of the children at my school have very young parents and equally young uncles and aunts. It's not uncommon for a 10 year old to have a mother who is only 26 & for the 10 year old to already have nephews and nieces.
