I too love the flip cameras. We now have 3 in our school and I think they are best used to provide immediate feedback about oral presentations to both students and teachers. Our 6th grade students enjoyed a 2 week career exploration in May and the culminating event was a "job fair" where they played the role of the career they had researched. The school toured the 6th grade classrooms and learned about all these careers. We have 3 6th grade classrooms, so each room took a flip and teachers/students videoed the action during the fair. Then, the whole grade gathered to watch as each flip was plugged into the TV and they enjoyed watching themselves and their friends with the final product! Great fun. I use it to make book talks for our book fairs. My students and I have a lot of fun. The bloopers are everybody's favorite part. We use Microsoft movie maker to make a video with all the book talks and other fun skits. I also use it to quickly give my storytelling club members a look at themselves while telling. It helps them see what they want to improve or change. I'm curious. What other ways are FLIP cameras being used in school? It was $129.99. at Target. The 3 year extended policy was another $19.99. And I bought a tripod for $8. It came with two AA batteries, and will tape for 120 minutes. The camera is sooo easy to use. There's a button to turn it on, and a big red button to start taping. The big red button stops the taping, too. You can zoom in and out. You can play back and watch on the camera's screen, or plug it into a tv with the included cable. You can delete a video by clicking the trash can button. My eleven year old daughter video taped my husband's 4th grade band concert on Tuesday night. I came home, popped out the USB, plugged it into the computer. The software starts right up. Once it's installed, the movie shows up on the computer screen and you click it and it uploads. The picture is great. The audio is great. He was impressed with the ease of it. My husband e-mailed the video to a bunch of teachers. One click from the main screen and off it goes. It couldn't be easier. I am 100% impressed. Karen DeFrank, Librarian Dorothy L.
