My school is experimenting with using our Title I funds to encourage parents to read to their children. We are planning to have the library open one night a week starting in January so that parents can come with their kindergartner or first grader to listen to a story, eat a snack and/or do a craft activity and of course checkout books. The kick-off event is an evening PJ story time in mid-December with the theme of winter holidays (catchy title is also needed). I would love to have some ideas of possible stories, finger plays or rhymes, craft activities etc. I'm use to doing lessons with these kiddos but this is a different venue when you include their parents and younger siblings. I really want it to be an enjoyable evening so parents will want to come back. Any suggestions are welcome especially from those who have held evening events like this or those who have experience in the public library where this is more routine.
