[LM_NET] Recommend a cheap laptop

I have a wonderful dilemma. Our library has received a $5000 grant to
purchase laptops.  When I was putting the grant together my IT person
thought that she could get laptops for around $500 each.  Now she thinks
that it is going to take more like $700 or $800 to get XP pro machines.
If we could get 9 or 10 we would have enough to work with a class in
pairs. I don't want to get desktop if I can avoid it.  We are very
cramped for space. 

Has anyone seen a great deal?  Can anyone suggest a laptop that they
have had good luck with?  Wish me luck.
