Oh, Wise Ones,
I have been forced to face the fact that in some areas, the U.S.
educational system has lost it's mind.
Here is the situation a friend of mine is facing, and has asked for
help with.
We have a class of Level 1, English Language Learners. These kids are
right off the boat and can, MAYBE, say "Hello, how are you." in English.
We have a school system that has decreed that "total immersion" is the
only way to teach English to their students.
Their reading assignment? "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Raisin in the
Sun."
We are desperately searching for the following,
Either a simpler book with the same theme or
A simplified version of these titles. I remember reading a simpler
version of "The Count of Monte Cristo" in french when I was taking
classes. Does anyone know of simplified versions of these two titles.
Any help will be appreciated! TIA
