An interesting study is reported on page 40...

They paid kids for grades and while they got good grades, there was no
or very minor carry over to test scores.

They also paid kids to read books and there was a significant increase
in grades..

While I may not approve of bribing students... it does have
interesting implications in this climate where everyone is cutting
back or closing libraries.
