If you're looking for a beautiful book regarding recycling and caring for the environment, consider using _Bag in the Wind_ by Ted Kooser with illustrations by Barry Root. This is a circular story about a shopping bag at the dump that is blown by the wind and is picked up by a number of persons before coming back to Margaret, a little girl who is earning money for a special gift. The book has the feel of _Edward Tulane_ and _Hitty, Her First Hundred Years_. My four year old grand daughter chose this book from among the new books at our local library. She listened very carefully to the story. After we finished I thought about this book and decided it's the kind of book that could be used ideally with a second or third grade class, but could also be used with older readers as the story is told very beautifully and includes several homeless characters as well as plain spoken store operators that ring authentic and will promote conversation not just about recycling but about life in general. There is a note about recycling plastic bags in the back of the book with facts and website suggestions. Ada G.
