I have been an Elementary Media Specialist for several years and am taking the plunge next year to the grades 6-8 bracket. I am meeting on Thursday with my principal and IT Director to hash out a schedule for the upcoming year. In our district, we were spoiled and had a Media Tech for library and clerical tasks, and the Specialist for lab instruction and ordering, and now due to finances will 'just' have a Specialist in each building . The positive is that I will be in the same building all day everyday which is a luxury I did NOT have in elementary. Could you all share some examples of your schedule? Like, I am thinking maybe weekly instruction for 6th grade in lab, and other grades by request, ie: a research project due, etc. That way I can be in the library when the kids need to check items out. Did I mention I am also the first line of defense for technological issues for the building? I am really curious as to how other districts schedule their Specialists' time and your responsibilities.
