I first put barcodes on in 1984 and have been working with them
now every since. I recommend two labels. One somewhere
outside (lots of opinions there) and one inside where the
pocket used to be. As time goes on those outside barcodes
fade, get dirty, get torn (even with plastic shields over
them), fall off, etc. If you don't have an inside barcode you
will have to search for the right number.

I still have date due slips in the back of my books which have
to be stamped. I tried using bookmarks that were prestamped
but the students lose them and then don't know when the book is
due. Anyone have suggestions for that? I have to open the
book to stamp it which isn't a big deal but does take time.
Quite frankly, since I am doing that, I frequently scan the inside barcode.
