We used to laminate our book covers for several years. It worked well,
but certain problems caused us to go back to the book covers. The main
one was that if the laminated cover was vandalized, damaged or abraided
you were stuck with it. When a plastic book jacket cover is used, after a
few years, you can replace it and have a book that looks like new. For
example, our pottery books need new covers every other year as clay dust
is extremely abrasive.
