For those of you who hate to do bulletin boards, I have found ways to make them easier. Since my supervisor does not like the commercial bulletin boards, I take apart the sets and use separate pieces for attention getters. The programs Print Shop for Macintosh, Print Shop Deluxe for Macintosh, and Bannermania are great for doing bulletin boards and displays. Banners provide a way for captions without having to cut out letters. If you have an Imagewriter II and a color ribbons, and signs can really stand out. I use the sign features on the Print Shop programs to highlight book titles that I want the students to notice. Print Shop Deluxe has its limitations since several of the layouts have limited graphics and text capabilities, but the designs are attention-getting and can be used to highlight book titles instead of using the book jacket. When Print Shop Deluxe does not have what I want, I go to Print Shop for Macintosh. I also use the Print Shop program on my Apple IIe if I can't find what I want using the Macintosh. Colored computer paper is a great advantage when I really want something to stand out. My hall bulletin board that I am planning for May will be entirely computer generated. The caption will be in two banners placed at opposite ends of the board: "School Work Done? Read for Fun!" The board itself will highlight the various types of books that students can read over the summer vacation. While I'm talking about bulletin boards, I would love to get some ideas from the LM-Net. I know there are a lot of creative librarians out there who have fantastic bulletin board ideas. --------------------------------------------------------------- MADELINE L.
