Hello,

I am a student at Southwest Texas State University working towards a
degree in Computer Information Systems. I know you think I must have the
wrong list but my questions are for you wonderful educators. I have worked
for about the last three years in student computer labs. I used to run the
English Writing Computer Lab at San Antonio College and I am currently
working as a computer assistant at Commons Computer Lab at Southwest Texas
State University. Since I have worked with computers and students for so
long, I am looking towards a career as some type of computer professional in
the K-12 school system. As I have witnessed in San Antonio, Texas, a couple
of the school districts assigns teachers with the duties of maintaining
student computer labs and maintaining computers for the entire campus. I
have helped my father, a Principal of a Middle School, design and implement
a student lab for his school that is run by teachers. I have also seen and
worked with my mother, a Reading Specialist of an Elementary School, design
and maintain a lab to use for her students. (Which is currently being taken
away and the computers dispersed among the campus because of funding changes.)
What I have not seen is a district wide support for administrators and
teachers in help with analysis, design, training, and implementation of
computers in schools. Here come my questions:

1. How many of you are teachers and are currently in charge of computer
systems or labs?

2. How much district support did you or are you receiving with analysis,
design, training and implementation of computers in the classroom or campus?
Did the people helping seem knowledgeable enough about computers and networks?

3. How many had to do the above on their own?

4. Do you think it would help to have a person or team of people working at
district level on analysis, design, training and implementation of computers
in the classroom or campus?

I would appreciate any answers or comments on this subject.
