Each year, People For the American Way (a nonpartisan nonprofit public interest organization devoted to promoting tolerance and protecting constitutional liberties) publishes a censorship report entitled _Attacks on the Freedom to Learn_. The report is based on year-long research, including mail surveys and individual interviews with parents, librarians, teachers and school administrators. The first part of the report outlines the problem of censorship and other challenges to public education supplying the major findings, trends, and conclusions from the year's study. The second part summarizes individual incidents in the "50-State Report." Appendices provide lists of most frequently challenged books and authors for the year and for the last ten years.
