I have been asked to put together a bibliography of novels set in the 60's and 70's for a new course being taught next year. I think I would divide the novels into subject areas like the Civil rights movement, Vietnam etc. But the teachers want novels that encompass the "whole" picture and let students know what it was like to grow up during that period. It is my generation and I regret that much of the period is stereotyped into a mindless flower child image. Novels that come to mind seem more for college readers. If you think of any appropriate titles for high school Catholic girls, please send them on to me (you can see my problem). I think I will be thinking about this request for awhile.
