Subject: Time: 9:51 AM OFFICE MEMO "Bill of Rights....for Electronic... Date: 12/14/94 As a relatively new LM_NET subscriber I have been participating only directly to others. So, I believe this is my first posting to the group. Prior to "Unlurking Day" I would like to share this announcement I believe *everyone* will find very valuable. Announced in NSTA Reports, December94/January 95 is a "Document Helps Schools Manage Internet Use, Abuse," on page 4. It is the "Bill of Rights and Responsibilites for Electronic Learners" which is available at "frank@american.edu" from Frank Connoly at the American University, Washington, DC. Issues covered include policies against software piracy, harassment and plagarism as well as the larger issue of access. It was written by a group of computer specialists, lawyers and academics. FYI - My "bit" of "unlurking" about myself........I am a teacher resource center coordinator at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Lederman Science Education Center, Batavia, IL. Four years ago I began the specialized collection of resources and services for educators (broadley defined) involved in science, math and technology education. The collection consists of print (tradebooks, instructional materials and curricula) multimedia (CD-ROM, Laserdisc, software) and telecommunications resources. We are also one of ten Demonstration Sites from the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for multimedia materials. It's great to work with teachers, librarians in schools and public libraries, administrators, scientists and parents who !do! science in a variety of settings with our nation's future - OUR kids! Enough "unlurking" prior to Thursday. I've learned to "manage" my LM-NET and interested in seeing all the communication and sharing going on between such super professionals. My greetings to all and to all a good year!
