NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES

To the researchers in this group:
   We have a sixth grade student working on his Boy Scout Merit Badge called
American Heritage.  He is looking for information about the Natinal Register of
Historic Places.  We spent nearly an hour on Internet this morning, trying to
find a place that would tell us what we need to know.  Does anyone know where
we can find out what is meant by the national register and how a property
becomes eligible for a listing in the register.  Please send replies to me:
