I am posting this message for the Director of Media Services. VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: Middle School Media Specialist -- The Columbia Public Schools in Columbia, Missouri will be opening a new Middle School (Grades 6-7) in the Fall of 1994. The District is presently seeking applications for the media specialist for this new building. Enrollment in this building will be approximately 750 in two grades. Since this is a new building, the media specialist will be establishing a media center program and building the collection based on curriculum needs. A budget of $500,000 has been established to provide th elatest technology for this building. Each classroom will be networked to the media center with full Internet access included. The Columbia School District is a Nationally Recognized School District with over 15,000 students with major growth taking the district to over 20,000 students by the year 2000. The Columbia Community has a population of over 70,000 with the metropolitan area having apopulation of over 125,000. Serving as the home for the University of Missouri, Stephens College, and Columbia College, one should expect the usual college town atmosphere common to a major university community. Columbia has been ranked in the top 20 most livable cities by "Money Magazine" for the past five years. In 1992, it was ranked second in the country.
