Cornell's Mann Library is Internet Site for USDA Statistics Computer users worldwide now have access to statistical data gathered by the USDA, thanks to a cooperative agreement with Cornell. Beginning December 1, Mann Library became the host for more than 140 free agricultural data sets, available to anyone with Internet access. Until now, the data, which were limited to summaries, were available only on diskette, in IBM format, for a fee. Complete reports are not available from this source. The system, designed by Cornell technicians, is easy to search. Data are formatted for importing into existing computer analysis programs. Each data set is accompanied by an explanatory document, and all text documents are indexed for electronic searching. The information will be updated with periodic data revisions.
