Forward in the Fifth Position Description Library Power Director (position contingent upon funding) The goal of the Library Power Program is to create school library media center programs that bring about improved teaching and learning, and to reinforce efforts to implement the Kentucky Education Reform Act. Applicants should possess, or be working toward, a degree in library science. A working knowledge of KERA, general school reform/restructuring issues, and professional development is encouraged. Applicants must be able to function as a member of a team and willing to do all manner of tasks. Computer experience will factor heavily in the hiring process, especially with IBM-compatible Windows environment, WordPerfect, and Lotus. This position is contingent upon Forward in the Fifth receiving implementation funding from DeWitt-Wallace Readers' Digest Fund. Forward in the Fifth will be notified by the end of September, and the program is planned to begin October 10, 1994. This will be a full-time, 12-month position of Forward in the Fifth. The Library Power Program Director will work under the supervision of the Executive Director and alongside all other Forward in the Fifth staff. Travel Requirements: extensive daytime, evening and weekend travel. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Coordinate and supervise the implementation of the Library Power Program at 13 sites in four Kentucky communities; * Coordinate professional development programs for teachers and school library media specialists; * Coordinate community-wide activities related to the program; * Work with Forward in the Fifth Director to develop and monitor project budget; * Serve as liaison between the Library Power Program and school systems, public libraries, businesses, and volunteers in each community; * Facilitate meetings of Library Power liaisons; * Work closely with school library media specialists in all aspects of the program; and * Participate in conferences and meetings related to the Library Power Program and KERA. The job requires a valid Kentucky driver's license and the ability to be insured on company vehicles. Salary depends upon qualifications and experience.
